The centerpiece of the Ash Creek School campus is the Alice Woods/Sunizona Library. It is housed in the original one-room school house which was built in 1910.
Since the late 1970s the Library has been run through a unique partnership. It functions as both a school and county branch library through a cooperative agreement between the school district and the county library district. The school provides and maintains the library facility and a portion of the book collection. The Cochise County Library District supplies a full range of library materials for both county patrons and Ash Creek students to use. It also provides the technical services needed to run a fully automated countywide system, plus public computers, round the clock WiFi, ebooks, and digital audio book downloads for public use.
The result of this mutually beneficial situation is that Ash Creek School students have access to all the services and materials available in any public library, and the community of Sunizona has a public branch library housed in an attractive, historic, yet fully modern facility. The library is one of the many community centered aspects of the Ash Creek School campus, and fulfills part of Ash Creek’s vision of offering a community based education.
